Opal Bartley, age 98, of Tompkinsville, passed away Wednesday,
March 10, 2010, at the Monroe Health & Rehab Center in Tompkinsville.
She was born in Monroe County, KY on
December 4, 1911 to the late Benton Emmert and Phoebe Thompson Emmert She was a member of the Freewill Church of Christ,
a retired school teacher in the Monroe County School System with 42 years of service and the widow of Denton Bartley.
She is survived by a daughter: Dwanna Turner of Tompkinsville, two brothers: Joe Emmert of Lincoln Park, Michigan,
Jack Emmert of Brooks, KY, four sisters: Geneva Dyer, Dean Gettings, Aletha Walden and Olivia Hall all of Tompkinsville. Three
grandchildren Tamara (Mickey) Cherry, Melissa (Doug) Landers, & Nathan (Candi Heller)Turner, five Great-grandchildren:
Trey, Mallory & Alexander Landers, Britany & Tyler Cherry.
In addition to her parents and husband, she
was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene, Ray, Ervin, & Francis Emmert, and son-in-law Daymon Turner.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 13, at 1:00 p.m. at the Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, with burial
in the Bailey Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville after 1 PM on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Bailey Cemetery, or Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (Monroe
Co. Area), or Heifer International, through the Columbia Ave. Church of Christ Youth Group, Glasgow, KY.
