Dixie Proffitt Strode, Age 67, passed away Wednesday, November
21, 2007 in Glasgow, KY.
She was born in Barren County on January 13, 1940 to the late Clarence Ross Proffitt
and Banna Smith Proffitt. She was a 1957 graduate of Austin Tracy High School in Barren County, a 1961 graduate of Western
Kentucky University, and then taught Home Economics in Vincennes, IN, then Burkesville, Tompkinsville, and Gamaliel, KY. She
then worked as a home economist for Tri-County Electric and the Tennessee Valley Authority.
She later obtained
her funeral directors license and worked in the business in which she and her husband opened in 1967, Strode Funeral Home,
and later opened Strode’s Gamaliel Chapel in Gamaliel, KY
She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Strode
of Tompkinsville, KY: one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte & Dr. Steven Birge of Eighty Eight, KY; two brothers Bobby
Daryl Proffitt of Louisville and Gayle Ross Proffitt of Lamb, KY; two grandchildren, Austin Birge and Bailey Birge of Eighty
Eight, KY; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were conducted 1:30 p.m. Sunday November 25, 2007
at the Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville. Interment followed in the Gamaliel Cemetery.
