Wolfe
|
William E. Wolfe, 82, of Vincennes, passed away at 6:40 P.M.
on August 31, 2010 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign, IL. He was born July 9, 1928 in Allendale, IL, the son
of Elijah and Maureen (Cusick) Wolfe.
William retired from Texaco Refinery in 1983 after 34 1/2 years. He
was a lifetime member of the Elks #1208 in Lawrenceville, IL and a member of the 32nd Degree Mason and the Shriners.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Jean (Ward) Wolfe of Vincennes; son Walter F. (Janet) Wolfe of St. Joseph, IL;
daughter, Annette (Randy) Garner of Decatur, IL; step-daughter, Teresa J. Mason of Tucson, AZ; step-son, C. Kevin Mason of
Vincennes and two grandchildren, Kyle Wolfe and Erin Wolfe.
Preceding William in death were his parents; six sisters,
Eva Mae Bedell, Clara Belle Beesley, Bonnie Lee West, Monzell Compton, Martha Reardon and Rebecca Grounds and two brothers,
Jack Wolfe and Elijah Wolfe, Jr.
Arrangements will be announced at a later date.

|
Shirley Joan Hawley, 74, of 230 State St. Vincennes, IN passed
away Wednesday, September 1 at her residence.
She was born January 15, 1936 in Lawrence County, Illinois to Henry
& Lula (Keen) Miley.
Shirley was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal church. She enjoyed going to
the Bettye McCormick Senior Center and enjoyed playing bingo.
Surviving is a daughter, Sharon Hardiman of Princeton,
a son, Michael Hawley of St. Louis, two sisters, Norma Patterson of Vincennes, Dora Mae Miley of St. Francisville, IL,
a brother, Henry Emmet Miley of Beecher City, IL, two grandchildren, Stephanie Hardiman, and Camilla Hawley, seven great grandchildren,
Syerra, Syuana, Chemar, Louis, Jr., Erica, Kyria, and Raven, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded
in death by her parents, husband, Lester Hawley, a brother, Eugene Miley, and sisters Mary Etta Briner, Zelma Michael,
and Irma Jean Miley.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 Monday September 6, 2010 at Goodwin Funeral Home with
Pastor Jim Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the Billett Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2-6
Sunday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the choice of the Donor.

Ronald L. Young, 76, of 5398 East Simpson Lake, Vincennes,
passed away at 8:45 P.M. Sunday August 29, 2010.
He was born August 4th 1934 in Indianapolis, IN to Luther &
Mabel (Bumpas) Young.
Ron graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952 and Vincennes University in 1954. He taught
school in Bridgeport and Grayville Illinois. Ron then served in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany. After his discharge from
the Army, he earned his Bachelors degree from the University of Evansville. Ron then became a bank examiner for the FDIC until
his retirement in 1984. He was a faithful member of the North/Community United Methodist Church where he had sung in
the choir and belonged to the Crusaders Class. His interest included roller skating, cars, music, TV game shows, sports, and
going to Dennys.
Surviving is a sister, Kay Brown and her husband Ron of Vincennes and a nephew, Kevin Brown
and his wife Christine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther & Mabel (Bumpas) Young.
Funeral
services will be held 11:30 A.M. Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Tromley officiating.
Entombment will follow in Tower Mausoleum II. Friends may visit with the family from 5-7 Friday at the funeral home.

Carol L. Vincent, 77, Vincennes, passed away at 7:45 P.M. Sunday
August 29, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital.
She was born July 25, 1933 in Daviess County, Indiana to Charles
& Alice (Welton) Argenta.
She graduated from Lincoln High School, Purdue University, and received
her masters at Butler University and had been a teacher for Lincoln High School and South Knox. Carol was a member
of the First Presbyterian Church and Kappa Alpha Theta at Purdue.
Surviving is a daughter, Victoria (Mark) Pearl
of West Lafayette, a son, Tom (Rebecca) Vincent of Vincennes, a sister Rita Carolan of Camarillo, CA and four grandchildren,
Kristin N. Pearl, Kyle M. Pearl, Hailey L. Vincent, and Logan T. Vincent.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents,
and her husband, Robert E. Vincent who preceded her on December 7, 2001.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 P.M.
Friday, September 3, 2010 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. George Ford officiating. There will be no burial. Friends
may visit from 1-2 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.

Mary F. Cardinal, 89, of Vincennes, passed away at 7:52 A.M.
Sunday, August 29, 2010 at the New Willow Manor.
She was born April 5, 1921 in Princeton, Indiana to Luttie Alcus
& Trunie Mae (Foster) Brown.
Mary was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its Altar Society.
She had owned Mary’s Café in Wheatland and had also been a seamstress. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery,
and loved to help people.
Surviving is a sister, Anne King of Vincennes, a stepson, Max (Joann) Cardinal of Vincennes,
a special great nephew, Austin Fairhurst, four step grandchildren, 12 step great grandchildren, 1 step great- great grandchild,
and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband,
Harold “Pete” Cardinal, whom she married September 10, 1942 and died on November 9, 1976, a son, Harold “Nick”
Cardinal, a stepson, Robert Cardinal, a sister, Jane Blair, three brothers, Lutie, Paul, and Cecil Brown, and a step grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Gries
officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt Calvary Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until
the service time on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Dorothy P. Parker, 98, formerly of Decker, passed away at 12:50
P.M. Saturday August 28, 2010 at BridgePointe Health Campus. She was born January 4, 1912 in Vincennes to
James & Clara May Adams. Dorothy was a homemaker and belonged to the Lower Johnson Homemaker Club since
1942. She was a member of the General Baptist Church in Decker where she had been Sunday School Superintendent and also
taught Sunday School and Bible School. Surviving are her children, Velma (Ralph) Carie of Freedom, IN, Wilma
Cary of Birdseye, Shirley (Donald) LeGroux of Bloomington, and Larry (Debbie) Parker of Owensboro, two brothers, James Adams
of Munster, and Berl Adams of Monroe City, 16 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was prededed in death by her parents, husband, Roy Lewis Parker whom she married August 7 1930 and died
on July 16, 1996, a son, Marvin Parker, sisters, Ruth Pancake, Gertrude Woods, and Annalee Thompson, brothers, Charles "Ulysses"
Adams, Boyd Adams and William Adams, and a grandchild. Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday
September 1, 2010 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Ray Tromley officiating. There will be no public visitation.

Frieda Crawford, 89, 156 Daleview Drive, passed away at 8:55
A.M at Bridgepointe Health Campus on August 24, 2010. Frieda was born on February 25, 1921 in Lowell, MA the daughter of Samuel
& Mariana (Bacos) Denopoulous. She married Max Crawford on May 4, 1946 and he preceded her in death on July 24, 2010.
Frieda was a 1941 graduate of Lowell High School in Lowell, MA and she had worked for Crawford Drug Store &
Landry’s. Frieda was a member of Community United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed spending
time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Patty Holscher-Isler & her husband, Ron of Lawrenceville,
IL; Barbara Crawford of Mesa, AZ; Becky Dodd & her husband, Bert of Vincennes, IN; grandchildren, Laura Holscher-Smith
& her husband, Brian; Heather Holscher, Rachel Dodd, Bert Dodd & his wife Kerri, Brett Dodd and great grandchildren,
Max Smith, Oliver Smith, Tye Carie & Willow Carie. Frieda was preceded in death by her husband, Max Crawford, 1 sister,
Bessie Antonopoulos; 3 brothers, Charles, George & Harry Denopoulous and 1 grandson, Brian Holscher.
Graveside
services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday August 27, 2010 in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Tromley officiating.

|
Kenneth G. Melvin, 90, of 511 Rousillion, Vincennes, passed
away Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Gentle Care Nursing Home. He was born March 11, 1920 in Shoals, Indiana
to Levi & Minnie (McKnight) Melvin. Kenneth worked for Packaging Corporation and Blackford Glass and
was a avid hunter and fisherman. He helped coordinate the city gardens for a number of years and was involved in the Boy Scouts
and Cub Scouts. He was a member of the Central Church of Christ and served his country in the Navy. Surviving
are his children, Sandee (Frank) Haven of Columbus, Susan Parmenter of Vincennes, and Kenneth (Vickie) Melvin Jr. of Vincennes,
his brothers, Hank Melvin and Mac Melvin, both of Vincennes, five grandchildren, Lori, Kari, Levi, Nick, and Katie, and 8
great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy Louise (O'Brien) Melvin,
whom he married on January 20, 1945 and passed away on July 7, 1998, his sisters, Vivian Daugherty, and Lillian Dustin, and
his brothers, Joseph and Allen Melvin. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday August 27, 2010 at
Goodwin Funeral Home with Roger Wright officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family
from 12-2 Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Pet Port.

In Memory of: David William Jackson
|
David William Jackson, 91, passed away on August 22, 2010 at
Glenburn Home in Linton, IN. He was born January 23, 1919 to Fred and Gladys Jackson in Clay County, IN.
After
graduating from Clay City High School in 1936, he worked on the farm until 1939 when he enlisted in the United States Air
Corps. In 1942 he was commissioned an officer. During World War II, he served in Africa, Italy, France and South
America. After the war he remained in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, retiring as a Major.
On December
24, 1941 he married Marjorie Liechty in Denver, CO.
After the war he attended Indiana University, receiving his
B.S. Degree in 1948 and an M.S. Degree in 1950.
In the fall of 1949 he began his teaching career at Lincoln High
School in Vincennes, IN. For 20 years he taught French and English before devoting full time to English and Journalism.
For13 years he sponsored the school yearbook, The Lincoln Log, and in 1963 he took over the sponsorship of the school newspaper,
The Old Post Sentinel. In 1968 he was appointed chairman of the English Department. He was instrumental in 1966
in reactivating the Lincoln High School Student Council which had been disbanded for several years. He acted as advisor
until 1979. In 1981, after 32 years teaching, he retired from Lincoln High School.
In the summers, and also
part time, he worked for the Vincennes Sun-Commercial newspaper from 1958-1969. He worked as a reporter, photographer
and from time to time, City Editor. As a “stringer” for the Louisville Courier Journal, the Indianapolis
Star, the Christian Science Monitor and the Associated Press, he submitted many human interest stories and photographs.
As a prolific photographer his pictures were of family, school and community events, subjects in nature as well as
weddings.
During the 1990’s he taught English part-time at Vincennes University.
David was a
faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Vincennes. In 1950, he was a founding member of the Homebuilders
Class. He taught many adult Sunday School lessons. David had a caring, compassionate and generous spirit.
He was a friend to all, never knowing a stranger.
He was a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve Officers Association,
the Local, State and National Teacher’s Association and the local Elks. He belonged to the “Golden Eagles”
a community group of Air Corps veterans interested in military aviation.
David loved speaking French, gardening,
writing, poetry, photography, teaching, crossword puzzles, playing the guitar and children. But most of all he deeply
loved his wife of 68 years, Marjorie, who preceded him in death. He adored and dearly loved his daughters, Catherine
Suzanne and Elizabeth Anne. He was a devoted and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by daughters, Catherine (Woody) Cardinal of Vincennes and Elizabeth (Bill) Updike of Indianapolis; grandchildren,
Chad Cardinal, Jill Harrison, Michael Updike and Emily Pressler; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Sid, Don, Fred, infant twin brothers and one sister, Freida Steuerwald.
Viewing will be from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 26, at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St.
Funeral services will follow at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. John Groves officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Lillian Iolene “Bonnie” Fithian, 96, passed away
at 6:25 P.M. on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the New Willow Manor. She was born September 24, 1913, in Decker, IN, the
daughter of E. Matthew and Ethel Mae (Williams) Berry. She married Paris E. Fithian in 1935 and he preceded her in death
in 1986.
Bonnie had worked as a dietary supervisor at Junod Nursing Home. She was a member of Hazleton United
Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star and attended Decker Schools.
Survivors include two
sons, William B. Fithian and his wife Betty of Vincennes and Robert W. Fithian and his wife Nori of San Rafael, CA; two sisters,
Marjorie Berry and Delores Goodwin both of Vincennes; one brother, John Berry and his wife, Joyce of Patoka; four grandchildren,
Jason Fithian and his wife, Regina, Lance Fithian and his wife Carmel, Steven Fithian, Timothy Fithian and his wife, Angela;
two step-grandsons, David Scott and his wife, Jennifer and Zach Scott and his wife, Carly; .eight great-grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Bonnie in death were her parents, husband and six siblings.
Graveside
services will take place Tuesday, August 24 at 10:00 A.M. in Hazleton Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family Monday
from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St.

Ruth Alice (Daffron, Dent) Hutton, 85, of Decker, died August
19, 2010 at Oak Village Nursing Home in Oaktown.
She was born in Sikeston, MO on January 14, 1925, the daughter
of Samuel Albert and Alice Lewis Daffron. She raised her family in Hazleton, IN and resided in Decker for the past 25
years. She attended the Baptist Church in Decker and was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, shopping,
collecting ceramics and cookie jars.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Milo Dent,
on October 2, 1967 and James Hutton, on March 9, 1982; two grandsons, Raymond Parrott and William Luedke; one granddaughter,
Lori Ann Parrott; one sister, Pauline Pearl Daffron and two brothers, William Burl Daffron and Samuel Arthur Daffron.
Surviving are two sons, Robert (Ruth) Dent of Decker and Samuel Dent of Fairbanks,Alaska; four daughters, Shelley
(Bill) Waugaman of Fairbanks, Alaska, Karen Woody of Decker, Diane (Bill) Hall of Hazleton and Reba (Don) Driskill of
Decker; fifteen grandchildren, thirty four great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren and one brother, George (Linda)
Daffron of Camby, IN.
Friends may visit with the family Friday, August 20, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Goodwin Funeral
Home, 524 Broadway St. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 P.M. with Pastor Leann West officiating.

Jackie L. “Jack” Wallace, 77, of 220 Center St.
passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, IN. Jack was born on March 10, 1933
the son of Ralph H. & Bessie F. (Gerkin) Wallace. He married Carolyn M. Conklin on October 12, 1995 and she survives.
Jack was a self employed painting contractor and he also played guitar and sang in his own band.
Surviors
include his wife, Carolyn M. Wallace of Vincennes, IN; son, Phillip E. Wallace of Vincennes, IN; sisters, Patty J. Althoff
& her husband Leon of Bicknell, IN; Mary J. LeCocq & her husband Steve of Vincennes, IN; brother, Jerry R. Wallace
& his wife Carolyn S. of Vincennes, IN. Also surviving are grandchildren, Shasta Hacker, Danasty Wallace & Jeffrey
Wallace. Jack was preceded in death by his parents & 1 brother, Dallas S. Wallace.

Charles W. (Bill) Hitt, 74, of 156 E. New Albany passed away
at 2:11 P.M. on Monday August 16, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital. Charles was born on October 14, 1936 in Shoals, IN the
son of Charles Ormonde & Mary Ada (Decker) Hitt.
Charles retired from the Packaging Corporation of America
after working there for 34 years. He was a member of the Indiana Presbyterian Church and the Bruceville Rod and Gun Club.
He also lived for hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his companion of 32 years, Jeanette Oliver of Vincennes,
IN; son, Charles R. Hitt and his wife Michelle of Wheatland, IN; daughters, Malinda Crane-Pavitt & her husband Bill of
Vincennes, IN; Tammerria Merydith & her husband Mike of Monroe City, IN; step-daughter, Twyla McGavic & her husband
Tim of Vincennes, IN; step-son, John Oliver of Lake City, FL; sisters, Delores Mayberry & her husband Bob of Hoopston,
IL; Jean Sanders of Vincennes, IN; brother, Jack Hitt & his wife Sylvia of Vincennes, IN; 16 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren
and 1 on the way. Charles was preceded in death by his parents & 1 daughter, Penny Hitt.
Funeral services
will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway with the Rev. Cheryl Thorne officiating.

He was born in Vincennes, Indiana to Troy
Blackburn & Angie (Parish) Blackburn.
T.C. attended Riley Elementary School, South Knox Elementary School,
South Knox Middle School, and was a 2007 graduate of Winter Springs High School in Winter Springs, Florida. He was a member
of the Heritage Baptist Church and was the Goodwill Ambassador in 2001 for Muscular Dystrophy.
Surviving
is his father, Troy Blackburn & his wife Mary of Vincennes, his mother, Angie Warmuth and her husband Jay of Vincennes,
his brothers and sisters, Brooke Blackburn, Jayme Warmuth, Lynda Donaldson, Eric Warmuth, Sara Madden, all of Vincennes, and
Cassie Madden of Lebanon, IN. Also surviving are his grandparents, Larry & Kay Parish, Earlene Warmuth, Rosalie
Blackburn, Marie Moranz and his dog, Teddy.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 18, 2010
at Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastor George Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may

Beverly June "Bev" Lay, 63, of 1527 Bayou Street,
Vincennes, passed away at 2:33 AM at Good Samaritan Hospital on Aug. 11, 2010.
Bev had just retired from the After
School Program at Franklin Elementary School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, and the Knox Co. Humane Society,
where she had served as recording secretary.
Born July 11, 1947 in Vincennes, she was the daughter of Albert Chester
& Camilla Irene (Staley) Hoke. Bev was preceded by her parents; a brother, Michael Hoke; her father-in-law, Francis James
Lay; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Lay.
Survivors include her husband, James A. Lay; two sons, Thomas L. Lay of
Illinois, and James R. (Dana) Lay of Shelburn, IN; a sister, Sandra "Sandy" Risley of Bruceville, IN; granddaughters
Renee & Katie Lay; a sister-in-law, Kathy Hoke; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Lay of Vincennes; and several nieces &
nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 PM on Thursday, Aug. 12,
at Goodwin Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 2:00 at the funeral home, with Rev. Dan Clemens officiating.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church
Building Fund or the Knox County Humane Society.
